The ACT turns 10!

It’s no coincidence that the word ‘art’ is the largest part of the word ‘heart’ because the health of a community, indeed a society, is measured by its art and the ability of people to express themselves in the literary, visual and performing arts. The District of Maple Ridge is fortunate to have a strong arts community, and just over 40 years ago a dedicated group of volunteers came together to form the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Arts Council. They worked tirelessly for three decades advocating for a permanent home for the arts in our community, and the fact that we are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Arts Centre Theatre is a testament to their determination as advocates, and their dedication and commitment as operators of this amazing facility. Over and over again I hear from performers and patrons commenting on what a great facility the ACT is and how blessed we are to have it in our community. I echo their comments. On behalf of our Council I want to thank the Arts Council and all the performers, of every age and every field of the arts, for making this amazing facility the ‘heart of the arts’ in our community. You give the ACT its heart and soul.
Ernie Daykin
Mayor, District of Maple Ridge
On behalf of Council and all the residents of Pitt Meadows I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the ACT on ten years of bringing arts and culture to Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. The Arts Council and all the volunteers and staff have transformed this space into a showcase designed to celebrate and experience art in many forms. After ten years the theatre still impresses, and the studios and galleries are overflowing with energy, excitement and creativity. Our communities would not be the same without the music, acting, dance, crafting, painting, and so much more. I am so proud to be a patron and so honoured to have such a fine facility within our two communities.
Congratulations,
and thank you to the ACT for ten years of bringing art to Maple
Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

All across the country Canadians are celebrating
arts and culture. Canada Culture Days
(Oct. 28-30) is a collaborative Canada-wide volunteer movement to raise
awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the
arts and cultural life of their communities. Culture Days embraces a core vision
that every individual – regardless of age, location or experience – has the
right to access and participate actively in arts and culture. Culture Days is designed to highlight the
vital contribution that the arts and culture sector make to the economic and
social development and overall health of a community.
It is very fitting that the Arts Council chose October
29th as the celebration to launch their 2012/13 season. We join them in celebrating their 10th
anniversary of operating the ACT, the Arts Centre & Theatre.
The foundation of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Arts Council is the energy, creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication of the staff along with the many, many community volunteers. We would like to acknowledge them for their accomplishments and contributions to the health and wellness of our community.
On behalf of the Parks and Leisure Services Commission and staff, I would like to thank you for your continued efforts to ensure that our citizens are provided with opportunities to experience literary, visual and performing arts and to appreciate and experience the cultural life of our community.
Thank- you and Congratulations
Sue Wheeler,
Parks & Leisure Commission
