FILM SCREENING:
A Weaverly Path: The Tapestry Life of Silvia Heyden

Friday, June 12, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

Admission by donation (suggested donation $2.00).

This film documents the ‘weaverly life’ of Swiss/American artist, Silvia Heyden. Born in Switzerland in 1927, Heyden studied in the Bauhaus tradition under Johannes Itten and Elsi Giauque at the School of Arts in Zürich. However it wasn’t until after she left her formal art training that Heyden began to explore the art of tapestry weaving. She considers herself largely self taught. Her expression of colour, balance and pattern and her translation of the natural world into lively abstract forms is extraordinary, and fully demonstrates Heyden’s  ability to use the ‘limitations’ of the loom to her advantage. This award-winning film offers a fascinating glimpse into Heyden’s life during her final years, when she was still creating new work with the dedication and enthusiasm that marked her entire career.
