School District 42- Me Myself and I
The Maple Ridge Art Gallery is dedicated to celebrating the creativity of local school children by offering exhibition space for their artwork each year. The latest exhibit, "Me ,myself and I" showcases artwork of local students and begins this Saturday, December 9th. We are all born creative, but if we neglect to develop and strengthen these skills, our creativity becomes inhibited. By assisting and encouraging local children's creativity, we hope to set the stage for endless opportunities for that child's imagination. A healthy imagination not only creates a resourceful and productive individual, but it also builds self-esteem, which is an important tool that will be used for the rest of that child's life. When a child creates a work of art, they are not just drawing or painting a picture, they are also creating expressing their individuality, self-importance and engaging in original self-expression.
Artwork created by students from kindergarten to grade seven is on display in this exhibit. Some of the works include self-portraits created before and after an art class and they show how artwork can change and improve through instruction. By celebrating the creativity of our children and giving them the outlet of self expression, we are setting the stage for the future of not only our community, but our society and humanity at large.
There are no limits to the creative energy displayed by children. It could therefore be said that the art of the child is the purest form of art. Unrestricted self expression and boundless imagination can be seen in this artistic works. There are no limits to the creative energy displayed by children.
Prizes will be rewarded to the most popular artwork. Every visitor has a chance to cast their vote for their favourite artwork during the opening reception and throughout the exhibit. A reception will be held at the Maple Ridge Art Gallery, 11944 Haney Place, Saturday, Dec.9th, 3-5 p.m. Exhibit runs to January 6th.
