Tiller's Folly

Tiller's Folly

The ACT is proud to celebrate 10 years and a new CD with Tiller’s Folly on September 22nd! For a decade, Tiller’s Folly has captivated audiences with exceptional musicianship and a progressive acoustic roots sound that encompasses elements of Celtic, bluegrass, folk, and popular music. The rousing vocals, dynamic acoustic guitar and classic songwriting of Maple Ridge’s own Bruce Coughlan, the layers of creative colour added by multi-instrumentalist, Nolan Murray, and the driving foundation laid down by bassist Laurence Knight produce a high-energy, entertaining live show. To celebrate their tenth year, Tiller’s Folly have released a new CD, A River So Wide, and will perform two special shows for their many local fans with special guest, Chris “The Wrist” Nordquist, who has appeared on many of the Tiller’s Folly recordings. Fans can also look forward to meeting Bruce, Laurence, and Nolan after the shows.

The new CD features songs that speak eloquently of the human condition, and tap into a gamut of emotions covering the essence of North American life including the song Chatham Reach which is all about the view from the Pitt River Bridge.  The band describes the song as: “There are few places in the world that can match the natural beauty of British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. One of the valley’s most scenic vistas is the view looking north up the Pitt River toward Pitt Lake (the world’s only tidal freshwater lake), at a stretch of the river known as Chatham Reach. This is one of Laurence’s favourites bed’s and again features John on those high high vocals and Larry on the hammond. It brings to mind some of the great acoustic tracks from acts like The Band and is a song from the great Celtic tradition immortalizing the natural beauty of the writer’s home.”

Based out of Greater Vancouver, Tiller’s Folly continues to shine a unique and poignant spotlight on their beautiful Pacific Northwest home.

“There is something reassuring and timeless about their music which follows in the footsteps of singers like Gordon Lightfoot, Stompin’ Tom Connors, and the late Stan Rogers...” ~ Yvonne Zacharias, Vancouver Sun
