14 Year Old Champion Pianist Premiers his own Compositions at The ACT

Raymond Zeng, 14 years old, is a remarkable champion pianist of British Columbia and will be premiering his own compositions at The ACT on Monday, April 28, 2008.  He composed a song for the city of Coquitlam and performed it with a large choir in Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby and Evergreen Cultural Theatre in Coquitlam in 2005. He also performed a piano concerto by Prokofiev with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in the same year.  Raymond was the champion of the Provincial Kids’ Talent Competition in 2003, the champion of the CIBC Youth Piano Competition in 2004, and the champion of the Student Performers’ Guild of Vancouver in 2007.

From then on, he had travelled to many places in British Columbia and used his music to depict the beautiful scenery of our province. He composed a set of piano pieces called the Vancouver Rhapsodies.

Raymond is going to premiere his Vancouver Rhapsodies including:

          1.       Ferry to Vancouver Island (about 3 minutes)

          2.       Dragon Boat Race (about 3 minutes)

          3.       Snowfall (about 3 minutes)

          4.       Good Morning, Maple Ridge (about 2 minutes)

          6.       Halloween (about 2 minutes)

          7.       Moonlight on Fraser River

Also, Raymond will perform some of the most advanced classical piano pieces composed by Beethoven, Liszt, and Prokofiev.  In addition to the performance,  Raymond’s father, X. Ming Zeng, is an internationally well-known artist. He has donated an original watercolour painting (with frame) for a lucky draw after the show.
