Artist Statement

This series of paintings is an ongoing exploration of human experience; which at first appears to be rough and crude. But once the rough exterior with its many layers of defense is broken down, there is a calm and peaceful beauty protected from external elements. The current viewpoint of the world is focused on a constant state of fear. Fear that something bad is going to happen, and that the world as we know it will come to its apocalyptic end. With this distraction of fear and terror, the subtleties of hope and peace become a lost and faded memory of what it was like to once be happy. Nowhere in this series of works is there apocalyptic terror or apathy for life, there is only hope that beauty of human compassion can be rediscovered to prevent the spread of negativity, hate, anger, and overindulgence. Despite the crude application of paint, there is a delicate moment of beauty that can be found.
