Scholarships

            Award:                        Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Community Arts' Council Scholarships

            Value:                         4 at $1,000: one in each of the following four categories:          

            Description:              1. Theatre/Musical Theatre

                                                2. Visual Arts

                                                3. Music and Dance

                                                4. Media Arts (electronic/graphic)

            Eligibility:                   District No. 42 Secondary School graduates

            Criteria:                      Each applicant is required to submit an artistic statement with their application which speaks to the applicants experience and future educational goals in the artistic field of their choice. Plus state how receipt of funding would allow the applicant to pursue future education. Submissions must also include the following:

                                                a)    curriculum vitae

                                                b)    inclusion of School District Application form

                                                c)    inclusion of a minimum of one letter of reference addressing the artistic and technical merit of the applicant

                                                d)    performing arts applicants must perform/present work to a panel of adjudicators selected by the Arts Council

                                                e)    visual arts applicants can submit up to a maximum of 12 art works, clearly labeled and media identified, to a committee selected by the Arts Council

                                                f)      presentation of visual arts work can be submitted in a portfolio format or in JPEG format on a CD

                                                g)    media arts submissions should be by DVD and between 5-15 minutes in length

                                                Each applicant will be judged based on presentation, artistic expression,

                                                technique and/or craftsmanship. Scholarships will be awarded to those

                                                continuing their education in the Arts. Proof of enrollment is required for payment

                                                of scholarship to be awarded. Students will have two (2) years as of the

                                                September following the date of issue to redeem an award.

            Notes:                       The school selection committee will select one student in each of the four categories (i.e. one student per category) and forward the names and the applications of the successful candidates directly to Lindy Sisson, Arts Council Executive Director by noon April 1st, 2011, who will coordinate adjudication and final selection by the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Arts Council Scholarship Committee.
