The Maple Ridge Art Gallery offers guided educational tours for school aged youth and community groups. In addition, we are excited to announce a new program; smART Kits. These all inclusive kits are now available for schools and offer teachers a lesson plan, art samples and other suggested resources, a vocabulary index and a materials list for creating art projects with an environmental theme.
Please ask our Gallery Curator how each exhibit and our new smART Kits can support your curriculum: 604 467-5855
Educational Arts Program: Bringing art to your classroom
The Educational Arts Program offered by the Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows Arts Council give teachers the opportunity to bring professional artists into their classroom. Students participate in the arts while learning from a working artist!
Dance Programs
Students will have fun moving and improving coordination while learning basic dance steps in these action packed classes.
Sessions: 45 minutes, 2 or more sessions recommended.
Drawing Basics
Most people first learn to see by identifying objects symbolically, through simple exercises this class teaches the artist’s way of seeing: how to see things the way they really appear in shape, proportion and tone.
Sessions: 1.5 hours
Comic Book Artist
Comic Books owe their graphic power to basic artistic principles such as perspective, composition and figure drawing. Students will learn to use these principles and other methods to create a fantastic well produced finished product.
Sessions: 1.5 hours (Covered tables and a sink required)
Layered Drawings
Students will be introduced to abstraction and pop art, as well as basic colour theory and line drawing. Themes for the drawing include self portrait, favorite collection, place or pet. Students will create a one of a kind drawing combining pop art and abstraction.
Sessions: 1.5 hours
Marimba Musica
Students learn technique and rhythm while playing fun simple pieces of music on a Marimba. Instructor will need student assistance moving the instruments into the classroom.
Sessions: 45 minutes for K–1 1.5 hours for Grades 2+
Pottery
Students will learn hand-building techniques through the creation of pinch pots or tiles. The pieces will dry and then be fired over 7–10 days and then students will return to glaze their pieces. One week later they can be picked up and distributed in your class.
Sessions take place at The ACT Pottery Studio in 2 sessions, 1 week to 10 days apart. First session is 1.5 hours and 2nd session is 1 hour.
New! Art experiences with Kjaer Pedersen, our Maple Ridge Artist in Residence. Kjaer is available to work with your class in clay sculpture or Artist Trading Cards. Or have your class get involved and work with Kjaer in a special community project.
